West Cork Distillers, established in 2003 by Denis McCarthy, Ger McCarthy, and John O’Connell, is situated in Skibbereen and holds the distinction of being the largest wholly Irish-owned distillery in Ireland. Despite the economic challenges at the time of its inception, the trio took the leap to open the distillery. They have since become renowned for their innovative whiskeys.One such innovation is their new special edition called “Maritime Release,” which showcases West Cork’s rich heritage by incorporating elements of its founders’ past professions.

The series includes four distinct single malt Irish whiskeys, each bottled in hand-blown glass reminiscent of the floating balls that once provided buoyancy to fishing nets. Among these, the West Cork Maritime Release Port Cask Single Malt stands out, with its aging in first-fill bourbon casks and finishing in Quinta da Boeira port casks, lending it an unparalleled sweetness. The characteristic spout on the side of the bottle ensures a smoother pour, and at its ideal drinking strength.This exceptional whiskey is bottled at 46% alcohol, is not chill-filtered, and has no added coloring.
