Bottled and released by Scottish indie bottlers, Boutique-y Whisky Company. Our guests this evening include BWC’s James Goggin, Liam Sparks of Hi-Spirits (Sazerac), Kevin Hurley, formerly of Teeling Whiskey, Lee Peare of Abelforth’s, Dave Mulligan of Bán Poitín & Bar 1661, and finally industry consultant Charlie McCarthy. That’s Aenaes Coffey upfront getting the cold shoulder. He is often credited as the inventor of the Coffey still. However, being the litigious man that he was, he merely refined and patented it. He would attempt to convert distillers to his more efficient stills, but was greeted with animosity and shunned by the distilling powerhouses of the time. He would later find success with the Scottish, thus helping turn the tide against Irish distilling…or so the story goes. Always more nuanced when you look into it.
Bottled in 2018, one of just 492 bottles, this Irish single-malt has been aged for 12 years, either Cooley or Bushmills. We’ll leave it up to your trained nose.
