The Greenore 18 Year Old is a single grain small batch offering from Cooley/Kilbeggan Distillery Company created in 2010/2011. With the 15 year old garnering many awards and favourable reviews the 18 didn’t disappoint on representing an upgrade. It’s small batch run was limited to 4,000 bottles and as such is hard to get one’s hands on.
The key to making an aged single grain that’s suitable for a top shelf is great cask selection for the maturation process. Cooley managed this quite well here with the results being a mix of sugary, fruity flavours from the grain along with nice spicy notes of coriander from the oak to complement it.
It received a Best Buy nomination from Whisky Magazine and won the Best Grain Whiskey at the 2012 World Whiskies Awards.
