Tasting Notes:
Nose:
The West Cork Maritime Release Sherry Cask Single Malt welcomes you with an opulent nose, reminiscent of a festive fruit cake, courtesy of the Bodegas Baron sherry casks. Raisins, dates, and dried cherries mingle with almonds and hazelnuts. The rich sherry influence is evident with a hint of oak and a delicate aroma of baking spices and honey.
Palate:
As you take the first sip, the sherry’s lush fruitiness is undeniable, with dark berries, plums, and figs taking center stage. The spice notes of clove, nutmeg, and ginger are beautifully interwoven, giving it a warming character. The malt’s inherent sweetness is complemented by a rich, nutty sherry flavor and a touch of dark chocolate.
Finish:
The finish is long and satisfying. As the fruity richness begins to fade, it leaves behind a lingering taste of sweet sherry, toasted nuts, and a hint of oak. A subtle, maritime saltiness emerges, adding an extra layer of complexity, possibly as an ode to the maritime heritage.
