When Denis McCarthy, Ger McCarthy, and John O’Connell founded West Cork Distillers in Skibbereen in 2003, the odds were not in favor of starting a distillery. However, equipped with their families’ distilling knowledge and driven by passion, the food developer and the fishermen forged ahead. West Cork Distillers has since grown to be the largest distillery entirely owned by Irish nationals. Their “Maritime Release” special edition is a tribute to the founders’ roots, consisting of four bottlings encased in hand-blown glass bottles, inspired by the floating balls used in fishing nets. The bottles also feature a side spout for a gentler pour.

The West Cork Maritime Release Sherry Cask Single Malt is a captivating expression from this collection. It is initially aged in first-fill bourbon casks and then finished in Bodegas Baron sherry casks, resulting in a spice-laden and fruity experience. Bodegas Baron is a renowned sherry producer located in the town of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, in the province of Cádiz, Spain.With a rich history that stretches back over 400 years, and it is one of the oldest sherry houses in the region.
