Dublin’s Teeling Distillery is well-known for its modern methods and creations, while still preserving the traditional spirit of Irish whiskey distilling. It has released several small-batch expressions in recent years, and the Teeling Revival series offers perhaps some of the distillery’s most innovative creations to date.
Take, for example, this intriguing 12 Year Old single malt, the fifth, final, and latest release of the Revival editions. While many Irish whiskeys are matured and finished in sherry, Bourbon or occasionally, wine casks, this unique gem has been finished in Cognac and Brandy casks, true to Teeling’s form for thinking outside the box – or outside the barrel, in this case.
A dram of Teeling Revival Cognac & Brandy brings forward refreshing aromas of lime, apricot, and sensationally sweet marzipan. Delicate and creamy notes of vanilla, sponge cake and honey, with a mere suspicion of brandy, tantalise the palate, rounding off with a long finish of honey and mellow oak.
