Laid down at the Old Midleton in 1973 by Master Distiller Max Crockett, then released by his son Barry Crockett 30 years later. A momentous bottling for a momentous occasion. With the Old Midleton distillery about to shut off it’s still, Max Crockett set aside a number of casks to his own private collection. Since 1981, the distilling operations have laid on the shoulders of his son, who had carefully watched over his father’s collection for decades. Finally in 2003, after 30 years of ex-bourbon, this single pot still was disgorged and bottled at 56%. Yielding just 400 bottles, this is one of the last ever whiskeys from the Old Midleton Distillery to survive.
Stewed stone fruits, honeysuckle, leading into a dusty leather store.
Layers of oily coat the mouth, with that unmistakable crackling of pot still spice, chewy toffee, leading to complex wood tannins that make this whiskey as full bodied as Irish whiskey gets.
Wood spice, pot still spice and caramel sweetness linger on into the night.
