Micil continue their revival of the poitín category with their Heritage Edition. Prior to distilling, the grains, in this case barley and oats, are kiln dried using turf fires. The turf used to fuel these fires were cut locally from their own family farm in Inverin, less than an hour west from the distillery. The peated barley gives the poitín a rich smoky smoothness with hints of malt, treacle and spice. The malted oats add a trace of vanilla and a soft peaty finish. This is a great alternative for those who prefer younger smokier whiskeys without the astringency that can come with aged whiskey.
