Knappogue Castle achieved acclaim as an independent bottler upon the release of their Knappogue castle 1951, a 36 year old Pot Still from the now shuttered Old Tullamore Distillery, in 1987. Since then the brand has kept ahead of the curve, and most recently has released a series of interesting cask finished single malts. This single malt was matured in ex-bourbon before a 9 months finish in Italian oak previously holding Barolo di Marchesi wine. This single malt, as is the case for the majority of the range, was most likely sourced from Bushmills.
