Distilled in Cooley and released in 2015. Despite it’s similar “dumpy” bottle style, the Kilbeggan 8-Year-Old replaced the previous single grain staple Greenore. The main standalone difference is this particular release was aged at the old Kilbeggan distillery. The warehouses are cool, build of solid granite and are nearly 250 years old. Aged exclusively in first-fill ex-bourbon, the sweet oily distillate melds perfectly with the soft vanilla and coconut tones of the barrel. Now discontinued, an initially only available via travel retail outlets, stock is rarely available on the primary marketplace.
Expect to experience a merry-go-round of sweet caramel, some pecan, with a belt of fresh wood spice. Highly lauded as one of the greatest grain whiskeys on the planet.
