Before Mitchell & Son embarked on creating one of Ireland’s most iconic whiskey brand, they had their humble beginnings as wine merchants. So it’s no surprise their wide array of offerings would converge. Thanks to their long standing relationships in the wine trade, we have the Green Spot Château Montelena. The classic pot still, aged initially in ex-bourbon and sherry casks, is treated to a further year in rich red Zinfandel wine sourced from the long-standing Napa Valley vineyards. Established in 1882, Château Montelena was taken over by Irish man Jim Barrett in the 1970s. The perfect homage to the Irish predilection to produce fine wines and whiskeys. The zinfandel imparts delicious jammy notes; blueberry, cherry, plum. It’s oily, bold texture only helps bolster the already thick mouthfeel inherent in the pot still.
